Competitive Singles Rate: Dragonite

Dragonite is one of my favorite Pokemon, hence my name on this blog. I really think it deserves more love, so I am going to show you some things you can do with the cutest dragon ever.


Dragon Dance
Item: Leftovers/Life Orb
EVs: 252 Atk/252 Spd/4 Hp
Nature: Adamant

-Dragon Dance
-Outrage/Dragon Claw
-Earthquake
-Flamethrower/Fire Punch/Substitute

Pretty standard offensive Dragon Dance set. Raise your stats with Dragon Dance, and then sweep away. Outrage is for power, Dragon Claw is for safety. The last slot is pick your poison.

Substitute Sweeper
Item: Life Orb
160 Atk/252 SpA/96 Speed
Nature: Mild
-Substitute
-Draco Meteor
-Flamethrower
-Focus Punch

Dragonite does a great job of forcing switches, so set up a substitute, and then rain death down upon whatever switches in. 96 speed lets you outspeed random base 60 speeds and lower who could potentially pose a threat.

Friendly Dragonite

252 Hp/252 Def/4 SpD
Nature: Impish
-Roost
-Light Screen/Thunder Wave/Tailwind
-Heal Bell/Thunder Wave/Tailwaind
-Dragon Claw

Again, Dragonite forces switches, so through them a curveball and set up a Light Screen! Or heal all your teammates of status, or cripple the sweeper who switched in on Dragonite by quartering their speed with Thunder Wave, or boost your team's speed with Tailwind. It should be noted that getting Heal Bell on Dragonite is very hard, and requires transferring the Dragonite you get in Pokemon XD. Also, Light Screen and Heal Bell are impossible to get on the same set.
