Bonsly's A History of Pokemon-->Volume One

Edit: New blog template has been put up!

                               Volume One: Early Beginnings

Pokemon has lasted over a decade. It started with work on the first games. The origin of this concept was from Satoshi Tariji's love of collecting bugs. The first games (Pokemon Red and Green versions) were released in Japan on February 27th 1996 for the Game Boy. It allowed people to catch, trade, and train Pocket Monsters, or as it was abreviated, Pokemon.

At first there were only 151 different Pokemon. This ranged from the Starter Pokemon Bulbasaur to the Uber-Rare Legendary Pokemon named Mew. Pokemon was a smash hit in Japan so they followed up the original two games with an improved version (Pokemon Blue Version). Blue had better graphics and sounds than Red and Green.

Pokemon, however, didn't stop with just the games. After the first game, a TGG (trading card game) was released in 1996 with 102 cards. The first Pokemon anime was based on a trainer and his rude Clefary, however it became the story of Ash and Pikachu that we all know today. There was also manga based on the games that involved Red (Ash) and Blue (Gary). The Pokemon Adventures is the most popular manga series in the U.S. It was started in 1997 and is still going on today. The manga Shogakukan made Pokemon Wonderland which was a magazine based on all the goings on about Pokemon. Today, CoroCoro supplies us with Pokemon information.

Until next issue,
-Bonsly
