Today's topic of comparison: Route 1: A Fresh Start
Opening Statement:
Back in generation 1, Game Freak introduced us to the craziest, wackiest, wierdest batch of creatures called Pocket Monsters (Pokemon). Now, in generation 5, they are trying to re-introduce the series. True or False?
It's 1996. The video game market is doing alright, but the Game Boy is quickly becoming old news. While Tetris is becoming the most popular game ever, some guy in Japan named Junichi Masuda is making Game Freak, a company which will be soon be known all across the world. In Japan, this man is pitching the idea to Nintendo executives. The pitch is not going well. Then Shiguru Miyamoto takes interest. And when the boss takes interest its a good sign. Thus, Pocket Monsters Green were born.
Result: Pocket Monsters Green becomes an overnight success.
It's 2010. America has gotten Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver fever. Japan is awaiting the next major game. So is most people in the USA, as HGSS were just remakes. Then in late April, the news breaks. Pokemon Black and White will be released in Japan in Fall 2010. This gets people excited. Some people decide to start their own website (me) and some people just only await Pokemon Sunday and CoroCoro Leaks to satisfy their desire.
Result: Pokemon Black and White were rated a 10 on Famitsu and boosted DSi sales across Japan.
The big hint we got that they were re-introducing the series was that this region was far away from the other regions, starting again at Route 1. Route 1 is a very symbolic term. It symbolises a new beginning.
Then, later, we found out that the new 149 pokemon were to be the only 149 pokemon in the main game, so old payers and new players alike would have no advantage. No longer would geodudes and caterpies be in our games, only new pokemon like tsutarja and mijumaru.
Conclusion: The reintroduction of pokemon will be a great game for Newbies and Veterans alike.
