Volume 4: Punch Out!! (NES-Virtual Console)
IN THIS CORNER. WEIGHING IN AT APPROXIMATELY 150 POUNDS. STANDING AT FIVE FEET, FOUR INCHES. FROM SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA. THE MAIN EVENT MAKER. THE ONE, THE ONLY, SHINX!!!. Oh we can only dream. Hey everyone, it's Shinx and this is Punch Out!!. Released back in 1987, Punch Out!! was the first Punch Out game on home consoles. But i'm playing it on the virtual console, but I don't think there's a big difference between them. And It's a good game but with some minor hiccups in some places along the way.
You play as Little Mac as he is trying climb the ladder to champion. You're trainer is a black man named Doc Louis. Between rounds he gives you tips about what the opponent will sometimes do. And after every title you earn you go training with him. But that's only a little cut scene.
Gameplay is okay. Each of the two buttons controls each of your two hands. Like button 1 controls your left and 2 controls your right. You use the D-pad to block and dodge. Whenever I play the game i always feel there's a small delay when you dodge. It's like half a second, but that half second can get you hit. Maybe it's my controller, but it always seems that there's a delay.
You have hearts that are your power. If your power gets to zero you can't punch, and the only way to get it back your power is to dodge. You lose power by punching the other opponent when they're blocking.
You're special move is the Star Uppercut. I'm not sure how you get it, but when you punch a person, a star pops above you which means you a Star Uppercut. You can only hold there at a time though.
All the opponents you face, are in fact, stereotypes. Well they got the French right with Glass Joe. I have to say my favorite would have to be Great Tiger. Mostly because he keeps on killing me. As a matter of fact, this game is actually really hard. I mean Hard. The highest i ever got was Bald Bull.
So know it's time for a rating. It's a good, simple game. But hard at the same time. Or maybe I suck at it. But still, it's hard. And it always took me awhile to find patterns that the opponents would do to defeat them. I give this game a 9 out of 10. Why?. Reread the paragraph , that's why. Well it's the end now, and I'll see you in the next Are You Game.
